Bali, FORTUNE - Discovery Kartika Plaza Bali proudly welcomes Mrs. Tomiyo Yamada, internationally known as “Expo Grandma.” At 76 years old, Expo Grandma is a celebrated Japanese cultural icon whose remarkable dedication to World Expos has inspired millions around the globe.
Expo Grandma’s lifelong passion began with her first visit to the 1970 Osaka Expo, a transformative experience that sparked decades of commitment. She later became widely recognized for her daily attendance at three major Expos: Expo Aichi 2005 (Japan), Expo Shanghai 2010 (China), and Expo Yeosu 2012 (Korea).
Her unwavering enthusiasm and global interactions have earned her roles as a tourism ambassador, official pavilion supporter, and even the first ticket holder for several Expos worldwide.
This time, Expo Grandma’s visit to Bali is a personal journey of cultural immersion. She aims to deepen her understanding of Bali, explore its rich heritage, and experience the beauty of the island’s traditions, people, and way of life. Her passion for global learning and cultural appreciation has naturally drawn her to Bali’s vibrant arts, ceremonies, and warm local spirit.
During her stay, Expo Grandma will explore various cultural sites and activities while enjoying the hospitality and comfort of Discovery Kartika Plaza Bali, one of Bali’s most iconic beachfront resorts.
“We are honored to host Expo Grandma during her visit to Bali. Her presence brings an uplifting energy to our resort, and we are delighted to support her as she discovers the beauty and culture of the island. We hope her experience at Discovery Kartika Plaza Bali becomes a memorable part of her journey,” said Luis Daniel Garcia, General Manager of Discovery Kartika Plaza Bali.
